Why is Hello Fresh so good for camp cooking?

Tipi camping is arguably the best way to camp - Tentipi 9

A few months ago, a friend introduced me to Hello Fresh. They had been ordering the ready to cook meal packages and recipes for a few weeks themselves and, understandably, wanted to take advantage of one of the many Hello Fresh promotions that would land them some free food by recommending this home delivery meal service to others.

Well, as I say, that was a couple of months ago. Hello Fresh is such a cool idea and especially good value; in terms of cost and convenience. I say that without any other motive for introducing Hello Fresh to others, except it really is too good not to talk about it.

I spend a lot of my time living in my van – an old motorhome that is well-equipped for cooking so I didn’t mind cooking before Hello Fresh anyway, but choosing from their 30+ recipes a few weeks in advance of delivery has become a fun pastime in itself; more-so than writing a shopping list, masking up and trekking to the supermarket, that’s for sure. If I didn’t mind cooking before, I love to cook now!

Everything needed for your chosen meal is delivered to your door, bagged-up, ready to prepare, plus the recipe, cooking method and timings to make sure your meal is a success. Just go step by step and… well, it’s a bit like having a comprehensive but simple to follow cookery course, as well. Easy to prepare, fresh, wholesome food which you get to turn into a delicious meal fit for serving at a restaurant. Honestly, Hello Fresh has extended the range of meals I cook and really makes an interesting change. I’ve particularly enjoyed discovering a wide range of flavours I hadn’t tried before. It’s great to get a fresh view on food. Many of the recipes are super quick, too. You really can cook your own fast-food when you’re in a hurry and know that it’s good fast-food. Those with families, note – you may well improve the quality of fuel you’re feeding them and they’ll love you for it. Better still, they can easily take their turn with the cooking while you sit down for a change (just shout some encouragement out to the kitchen – they may well want to take on the cooking from now on).

So, why is Hello Fresh good for camp cooking?

The best thing about Hello Fresh, for me, is that I can order five meals for the week ahead, knowing they will arrive promptly at my door, all in a single box. Each meal individually bagged. Cold produce, like meat and dairy are packed in ice to stay fresh and I can load the box straight into my campervan and go travelling for the week.

I don’t have to go to the supermarket, with all that meal-planning. I know Hello Fresh will send the best ingredients for the meals I’ve chosen. They even tell you what pots, pans and utensils you’ll need, as well as any extras you should have in, like olive oil, salt and pepper. I always have those things in my camping box, anyway.

No drama. A real pleasure. From ordering via the Hello Fresh app on my phone, to delivery, to the convenience of planning which recipe to have which night, and minimal washing up! I just head off on the road.

Here’s the latest meal I have cooked with Hello Fresh. Lunchtime today, all in one pan – a Dutch oven – cooked on top of my wood burner in my tipi in a field in the middle of the countryside. Tomorrow, if the weather holds, I’ll cook on the fire outside. Hello Fresh makes it easier wherever you cook.

With Hello Fresh – on the box – ‘Dinner is solved’ lol, I love that! 😀
